My horse has had a rash for a month now. Vet not overly worried but he is itchy and fed up with it now. Anti histamine worked but made him drowsy. Scared to use steroids cos of lami risk! Help!

Easier said than done but if you can find out what's causing the rash then you can eliminate it.

Other option is to try different antihistamanes.

Horses - aren't they a worry

Does it look anything like this?

If yes, look up urticaria... Although this is not normally itchy. Rash always = allergy/reaction of some sort, you need to methodically go through your feed, bedding, disinfect grooming kit, stop using any products, bath horse top to toe in some sort of baby shampoo, if you can put on a completely no grain pure fibre diet. Try some Epsom salts for a few days, and order some sulphur tablets to cool the blood, or buy some rock sulphur and plonk it in the water bucket... Sulphur is a fantastic product for treating and cooling a range of skin issues.

I would try GLAUBER SALTS we used to use it for the tb,s it was used by the racing yards in Newmarket , they used it once a week, and called it miracle salts ,it clears lumpy rashes ,we used to buy in small packets from the chemist ,dissolve in small amount of warm water then top up to full bucket with cold ,we used to put two buckets in stable and the horses always drank the Glauber salt first.
If you type in on net Glauber Salt for horses ,you can read more about it . Hope this helps.

This sounds ideal actually, it's sodium sulfate so contains salt and sulphur.
