Athroscopy

Not on a tendon sheath but for OCD in the stifle. It's basically a minimally invasive procedure as it is keyhole surgery, to clean up the affected area - in your friends case the tendon sheath. the wounds will be tiny and recovery relatively quick. prognosis for OCD is usually very good but tendons are a whole different matter.

yes it's called tendoscopy when it is a tendon and normally athoscopy when it is a joint (as far as i know.). mine had this for damage to tendons had windgall like swelling (pic in the picture gallery above) the surgry was to remove the damaged fibres and adhesions. that was back in may still on rehabilitation (still in too) now looking gd but still toearly to give full prognsis. the tendoscopy wasn't any problems but the anesetic was which now makes me very awear of the risks invoved but if this is best for the horses the risks are worth it

Yes my horse had tenoscopy, it showed that he had a split DDFT and torn manica flexoria.

There were 3 stab incisions in my horse's leg and the stitches were removed after about 10 days

There is an anaesthetic risk in horses, higher than people, dogs or cats. The risks are minimised though and the horse is pre-assessed to check fitness and health prior to anaesthetic and surgery.

My horse was videoed when he had his surgery and I can try to send you a link to show you what was involved, if you are interested?

My chap was on 1 months full box rest after a left hock arthroscopy followed by 2 months of controlled turn out, ie in a stable sized paddock for a few hours, if this makes sense. He went barmy, as it went on for 3 months controlled turnout, but once he was out all day in a routine he settled

My horse had one 2 years ago on her fetlock joint but she had a long recovery because she has massive cartledge damage.

She has 3 months box rest post op with inhand walking after 6 weeks then pen sized turnout from 3 months in a small pen which in creased in size weekly for 2 months and she had a decent sized field after 2 months.

As soon as my horses stitches were out, he was in a tiny paddock.

For my horse regular gentle exercise was recommended to prevent adhesions in the healing tendon and to encourage verticle fibres to form instead of randomly.

My horse was walked in hand for 6 weeks and then instead of walking in hand, he was ridden in hand as he was doing so well and it was safer to be on his back than by his side!

Follow your vets instructions and your gut instincts.

I will try to pm you the video link.

A friend of mine had it done in fetlock, still not healed after over a year. Scar tissue is the problem, keeps going lame. huge amount of box rest, hand grazing and restricted turnout later, now in small paddock but if he runs around at all he will go lame. sorry.

we are now 4 and half months post surgry. still on box rest is walked out and grazed for about 20min and ridden for up to an hour walk and trot. not out yet due to risk of her running about too much can and damaging further as not fully healed at this stage even though she is sound scar tissue can be a problem as it can 'stick' the tendons together. at the end of the day evey horse is different and recovery programmes will be abit different for everyone.
