I know this is not correct in here, but will also post in the vets section but I am DESPERATE to know if anyone else has ever had the same problem...............

Rode Mister, he was fab, no probs.....then in the afternoon he went very sullen, could hardly walk and was standing with his head and neck to the left, he would not bend to the right......had vet up, he could not tell what the problem was... he injected him with Steriod anti-inflamatory........this morning he seemed a little perkier but still no able to bend to the right with his head....he could this morning bend his neck but his head was tilted. I believe it is the Atlanto-axial joint which is the pivot joint which enables the lateral flexion of the head.....which is not working when you ask him to turn his head to the right. Left is fine. No obvious heat/swelling etc... I think his mandible area on the left is now a little narrower than the right........I am having him x-rayed on Monday (vet wants any swelling there may be inside??!! to go down before x-raying) so we can eliminate bone....... I am soooooooo upset............last horse was put down at age of 6 and horse before that was retired to redwings at age of 7...........please send some vibes/chant/ whatever as I do not want my boy to be ill.................thankyou........

So sorry to hear about Mister. No wonder you're gutted. Sorry, I've no experience of this but am feeling for you both. Here are my {{{{{{{{{positive vibes}}}}}}}} on their way to you.

What does your vet say as to how it happened? Has he got cast and perhaps flexed his neck in the wrong way?

Vet is unsure.......nothing abnormal happened that day, or has......he had not been out for a week but ridden every morning and was as right as rain........it is a mystery so far.....

Oh dear, it is a mystery. I wish I could resolve it for you. At least your vet is going to investigate. will this mean your boy being hospitalised? Try and stay positive, I know its not easy.
