We have just purchased a solar trickle charger for the electric fencing but we are not sure how it is going yo work? It has crocodile clips to go on the battery but obviously we already have crocodile clips on the battery from the energiser?
Does any one else use one for there fencing and can help in how to set it up? We purchased ours from maplin.

Hi think this is hat I have !!!
I attach both the crocodile clips to battery & put the solar panel facing the sun - has been working well - someone did say you could change a set of clips to the small discs to fit on plugs of battery I haven't done this yet - I also want a stand to mount solar panel on - need to sort this as well at the moment it is just secured to fence x

Thank you, so we just attach the black and red the same as the black and red on the energiser? I was wondering if we needed to put them the other way round as one is for charging the other is charge going out? Hmmm, think I am confusing myself.

I've put the 2 red & 2 black together - don't know much about batteries but thought positives & negatives should be the same - I think the idea is that charge is going in from solar as charge is going out (energiser) - that way battery doesn't go flat - please someone correct me if I am wrong

Yes that's what I've done too. The two reds together and the two black together. I initially wasn't sure whether the two sets of crocodile clips should touch one another (quite a small space for two clips), so was trying to keep them apart, but I found out it doesn't matter at all, it still charges fine.

Both the red together and both the black together . The panel must be able to see direct sunlight . During winter do keep a look out on the low battery light on your energiser . If your battery has one of these magic eyes the change colour do not trust it, they are not a good indication of the batteries condition.
Once we get to spring you should be fine.
Good Luck
Nick
