What? So this forum is only for the elite firstcomers?? The number of 'posts' you have is not proportional to your knowledge and experience you know.

ETS - sorry if I have misunderstood your comment - just read it as I saw it...

I wold say that 99.9% of the posts on this forum are constructive, friendly and helpful. I for one think this forum is worth its weight in gold in terms of advice and support. However, in the thread you mention, I personally feel most people have been pretty restrained. It is distressing to realise that this KMS69 person is totally unwilling to listen to advice that has been previously given out of peoples' caring. We try and help each other, but she is not willing to listen so the main concern now is for the welfare of her horse(s). Those videos were distressing to watch, and a caring and knowledgeable owner/rider wouldn't have ridden like that, let alone posted them on a forum as something to be proud of. I cannot think what you hope to achieve by this thread, this is a remarkable forum with some highly knowledgeable members. BTW, I think you can feel pretty confident that KMS69 won't be in tears. We have been down this road before sadly, and her only concern seems to be that anyone should think she is fat (she is not).

I couldn't agree more. I have struggled to bite my lip for weeks if not months and the post I ended up making could perhaps we perceived as harsh but I can guarantee you all it was restrained.

see its comments like that, that annoy people!!!!! i mite not have the large number of posts because i have a busy life, doesnt mean i dont have any knowledge and experience! how do you work that one out! Because ive only got a 1000 posts i know nothing about horses, think about that one!

I will admit that sometimes on this forum there are certain people who could do with being more tactful - I can never tell whether they have a bad way with words or whether they intentionally try to put other people down

.

However in the case of the KMS69 post I think most of the comments were justified - when it comes down to horse welfare we shouldn't have to worry about upsetting the poster when the horses are suffering. In such cases the old adage 'if you can't say something nice don't say it at all' doesn't cut any ice. When people feel strongly about something like that it is important that they do speak out rather than just saying 'nice pics' or just not commenting. I haven't posted on that thread purely because I think everyone else has said everything I could possibly say!

This worried me too as I am also fairly new but I like to share my opinions! I try to be as tactful as I can though and only post when I feel as though I do have the knowledge to make a valid point. Hope that doesn't make me too big for my boots!

I stand by everything i have said about KMS and her poor horses,

If I lived near her I would report her immediately to the BHS and ILPH.

The fact she thought the pics would be funny even though one horse is half dead and the other in clearly in a lot of pain speaks volumes, especially when her first response was nothing to do with the horses welfare or her riding, no it was about herself and her weight!

Another reason why you should need a license to own a horse.

Think there is a HUGE misunderstanding here. I was responding to YOUR post because that is exactly what I thought that YOU were saying - new members being "too big for their boots" etc.

Note my lowly (sp?) 49 posts...

I don't think duration of membership counts for anything - everyone is entitled to comment as they see fit regardless of how long they have been posting.

What?? Oh come on, How many posts do you know that end like KMQ69??? How much fantastic advice is dished out on this forum by people in the know? How welcoming are people in generally. I have made so many fantastic friends on this forum, really decent people and I think that my riding has improved my advice from such as S_V, Weezy, Tigers_eye, Boss just to name a few. The people on this forum would bend over backwards to help you, Weezy was going to mail me her german hackamore when my horse had his op, can you seriously label us all from this one post which clearly clearly needed critigue??

No im not sayin that people dont have the experience and knowledge because there new to the forum! im saying there putting comments up and voicing opinions that are going to get well and truely slaughtered for it and then we are gettin complaints that there are attitude problems in the forum! Its some of the opinions and comments that are making new people 2 big for the boots..

Ahhh... more that new members don't follow the 'forum etiquette' then?

Sorry for confusion, but your original post was misleading!

yeh im tired

i cant be bothered to come out with posh comments like that lol made sense in my head!! yes theres no forum etiquette anymore and its really annoying!

the fact that because i dont have a large post number on a bloody forum i dont have enough experience and knowledge??

[/ QUOTE ]

Think you've got her wrong! She meant that the number of posts is not linked to your knowledge or experience.

I understand too now lol

Yes forum etiquette is important, I lurked for a while before I first started posting and its only now that I just jump in on random posts

Pictures gallery, is called “Lets play chase me Charlie”

sojeph? The writing in your signature is very true… “everything written in my posts are 'MY OPINION' only-take it or leave it!!” and I fully agree with it as that is what I have done, stated my opinions, as have most other people. I do not wish for this to become a huge debate as I will feel it will turn against me and will feel awkward making any other posts on here.

Don't feel awkward - this is just your opinion - absolutely nothing wrong with that

I think another important point is that newcomers or non-regular forum users might not always realise the full history behind a controversial post - often it is not the first time someone has posted something like this, they are known to ignore constructive advice or post contradictory things, etc.

Glad we got all that sorted! Think everyone is a bit 'on edge' after all this kms69 business... Might help myself to a glass of wine - see if that helps!!

i am a member of about 3 or 4 forums... this one is best for being non bitchy and people on here [i find] are absoloutely great!

with respects to that thread (ive just looked and posted) i only read about 3 or 4 pages (got bored lol) but all i can say is everything said is right!!
if you saw two horses being mistreated would you stand there and say nothing?! sorry but to me a horses welfare is more important than upsetting someone. i dont care about kiss me sweets riding ability to be honest or her weight or any of the other peronsal comments made but what i DO care about is the fact those horses need getting out of there! and FAST. someone in the area please god call your local RSPCA for the horses sake

I'm gonna go read that post after reading all this to see what it's all about. Totally agree with your "have a glass of wine" just started back at school today and already feel need for alcohol
smile.gif

I agree that some people, sometimes seem to post cutting remarks but I've not been on here long enough to judge if thats them or an off day or if people derserved it so I keep quiet but anyone abusing horses is not on and needs telling straight. I've been riding since I was 5 (am 30 now). As a family we have had horses and ponies til my teens when I then helped out in a stable for a bit but even I have gone back and had stable management class and loads of lessons since I started thinking about getting my own horse after a long break. It's just not even an excuse to be naive, if you don't know what you're doing and don't accept advice you also don't derserve to have them!

Oh, this is ridiculous!!

The OP (original poster) of that thread has had nothing but good advice. Forum members have offered to help her out in a non-judgemental way, but the oP continues to not only ignore advice, but post up photos of these poor bloody horses and think it's amusing. To her they are not animals, from the vids you can see she thinks they are toys.
I too have bitten my tongue. What I wanted to say and what i did say are two totally different things.

I am in no way an 'experienced' horse person. But the help, kindness, advice and friendship i have gained from this forum, both online and in RL has been fantastic.

If someone wishes to make such ridiculous posts on here they should expect to be mobbed by angry people. In fact, the only photos I want to see from OP from now on are those showing the recovery of her horses.

Well said Kate. Im a little stunned my this post TBH, I think you are reeping on peoples feeling from the post in the Photo Gallery, this post need not be here. How you can say that people's attitude stinks is beyond me- everything said on there was to help horse/rider. Posts have been dressed up before, that didnt work, the more plain and blunt, the easier they are to get over to her.

Well to be honest, if you post on an open forum its a risk you take. I know I would also be upset by it, but if its going to help the horses health surely its worth it?

Also you have to beware that you cant tell how something is said when it is typed! So you cant see facial expressions or the tone of voice which also makes some comments hard to process

I really do not understand how you can judge someones personality from one post, I really don't.
I have made some fantastic friends, and gained so much knowledge from these forums its amazing.
Everything said on that post in the picture gallery was an attempt to help both the horses and the rider.

just read a few as cba to read all of them. i wasn't say anybody inparticular, and i am entitiled to my opinion. people can think what they like. nobody is stopping them. im not getting big for my boots and i havent taken into account now that the person who posted the pictures has "deaf ears" or something like that. tbh, if saying my opinion is wrong then IMO i wouldn't have anything to say!

i would just like to say... i know everybody is worried for the horses and their welfare. do you think im stupid or have no eyes, you can see just by looking at them their condition is down-right out of order and they need a hell of a lot of feeding up!!!

shotting me down for stating my opinion...??

okay let me make my points very clear...

- i wasn't aiming the OP at anybody in particular, but at a particular post i had read a few comments too.

- i understand the horses welfare is at a very serious stage where someting NEEDS to be done.

- i felt ill looking at them pictures, as i think most people did and i was truely horrifyed! i've seen ponies like that in real life and i was crying my heart out wanting to buy them when i went to a horse auction. NEVER went back again!

- i don't know all the facts, when i did the OP i didn't realisekms had been told things before hand, i do now know these things and im even more shocked that the condition of the ponies is still bad.

i think a few people misunderstood my post, but i cand eal with things like that.

i know when i posted this i was going to get some comments i was going to say "eh?" and "well whatever *raised eyebrows* " and some i wasn't going to like, and i can handle that i've had too much **** in my life to care about what people think of me now. critisise me in a helpful way on whatever by all means, but you can say im the uglyest mug or the thickest, contradictative (is that a word??) in town and i won't give one!!

please take note as to what i have said, as i have taken note as to what you put.

again, thanks

Lizzie

(i do not wish to be shot down, purely for speaking my mind)
