Attitudes to dogs in different countries.

I have just come back from a trip to Croatia and Slovenia, both countries very dog friendly but things of note, firstly in towns dogs were 99% on lead, walking nicely and totally ignoring other dogs and people. At cafes they sat quietly under chairs or tables, no constant barking or begging. Dogs seemed to be treated as dogs not replacement children, could this be where the UK is starting to go wrong in dog ownership?

I bet children are better behaved there, too.
We have no sense of society over here now, we are so selfish in life generally.

They must be the dogs who are left once the ones who've been "abandoned and mistreated" have been imported into the UK.

I was in Spain last week and it was the same. Lots of small dogs not many medium sized ones but lots of huge dogs. Most on leads but all behaving beautifully and only paying attention to their owners. No pestering of other people or other peoples dogs and no begging at restaurant tables. It was a pleasure to see them all.
