I'm looking for an x-full bridle for my very large headed horse.

Comfort or shaped crown piece, hunter or padded cavesson - no crank or flash.

Preferably black

:)

This is my current bridle, which I love, but it is too small :(

(and yes I know, in this photo I've done the noseband up wrong :o )

My lad has a head the size of a London bus. I bought him a Mark Todd x full with flash. It was reasonably priced and is well made. Fits very well too.

Looking at the photo, your headpiece and browband are certainly too small, the noseband probably is but the cheekpieces would be too long with a longer headpiece. On a correctly fitting bridle the cheekpiece and noseband buckles line up with the eye and all straps should be routinely use on the middle hole (there should always be an uneven number of holes to enable this to happen). You should consider buying a bridle that allows you to chose the pieces individually to get the best fit. In my view a wider flat noseband would suit your horse's head best.

I have been very pleased with my stubben extra full bridle. Which I picked up second hand from e-bay .

I would agree with this.

My Stubben XF came with the horse and it was no where near new then. 12 years on it is still going strong and I would certainly buy another.

What's your price range? You could get one made in quality leather. made o measure, at amazingly low prices (compared to Stubben etc, and so much better quality and prefect fit), with your choice of everything, plus a good saddler - like mine - cn advise on what would also look best on certain heads. Can reocmmend one.:)

I have a hand made XL bridle that was my 18hh heavyweight RID geldings. I had it hand made by Patrick Wilkinson of Beverley. I lost my lovely boy 3 years ago to leukaemia and it's sitting in my tack room. It is a plain hunter bridle with a 2 " cavesson - pm me if you think it might be what you want. It's dark Havana.

my guy has a Kieffer event bridle and a Stubben - the noseband is a little neat on the Stubben but both are nice and have the padded headpiece. Think the Kieffer is cut away slightly around the ears.
