Atypical Myopathy (Sycamore poisoning)

Hi, has anyone had any experience of this. My mare is currently on day 10 and is now looking much better but my big problem now is what to do with her. I have limited pasture, has anyone tried clearing the ground of leaves and seeds and turning the horse back out? How safe will this be? Do the toxins leech into the ground or are they just in the seeds? She has now been stabled since the onset of the illness and is going stir crazy! I am worried that now keeping her in is doing more harm than good, am desperately looking for somewhere else to keep her but have no luck so far. Ideas please!
 
not in your area by a long way, but if you were you could put her here in a heartbeat. Didn't want to read and run. I hope she makes a speedy full recovery, she's one of the very few lucky ones!

I think you have two choices - find another safe paddock or clear your paddock, will be hard work and you will need to do it daily. I presume the seeds are all over the field? Is there any sections that are safer that you could electric fence off?
 
Both mine got it in April 2014. After the first died we moved our other horse to a different paddock away from the trees and checked it at least twice a day for any new seedlings. After a week he got it too. Sorry, I wouldn't take the risk. When HP left the vets I took him to a different yard. Do you own the grazing or rent/livery?
 
Hi, I am so sad for you, but well done for getting her through! :) I am surrounded with Sycamore trees and have two beautiful oak trees in the same field! :( However, I do have access to 2 other paddocks which is very helpful. I have fenced off some of the worst of the sycamores lining the paddock, and when poo-picking twice daily do a 'recky' of acorns and sycamore seeds as required seasonally.

On the basis that your mare has already been affected, I would chat with your vet as to the likelyhood of her being more likely to be affected again, and possibly worse, or if it is likely she may build up a tolerance, I have no idea I'm afraid.
