I'm after opinions on Aubiose bedding please. Had a bad winter last year with respiratory problems with my 19 year old TB, when he was stabled on woodshavings. I'm trying to prevent the same thing happening this year so has anybody got experience of using it, good or bad? he will have rubber matting as well. Many thanks!

I wasn't too keen on it. I have a mare that will pee quite close to the edge of her bed (12x12 stable, 13.1 pony so half bed) and I found that the pee would be in a puddle in front of the bed in the mornings, also running into her haylage so she didn't eat it!

Love it. I use it on top of rubber matting, I find it very easy to muck out (I have a dodgy back) and not at all dusty, even when I put a new bale in. Although it is a tad more expensive than some, I find it makes a firm bed and is very economical with negligable wastage.

Same as Rhandir, I use aubiose on top of rubber matting and much prefer it to shavings. I have the dirtiest gelding ever and only use one bag a week. I skip out daily and take out the wet once a week. Works for us!

Thanks for the quick replies!
I think I might take the plunge and give it a go, I don't mind paying a bit extra if it keeps the old boy healthy!

its great and I mix it with wood pellets which makes it cheaper. It doesnt stick to horse, rugs or your own clothes either! Much more stable and absorbent than shavings, I use about a third of the shavings I used to with the aubiose/pellets mix.

Love it but at moment can't get it in Dorset which is a real pain as OH has taken a shine to it for the cow beds we use straw at the front and Aubiose at the bit where they poo for the cows.
My mare and foal are great on it hope they restock soon.

I love, love, love Aubiose.

BUT

I went into our local farmers shop this week to buy my winters worth of bedding, and they said that the company that make Aubiose in France haven't produced any this year!

So, I can't get any this year. Anyone else heard the same?

I use Aubiose on top of rubber matting. I'm lucky in that have a very tidy horse in the stable, he does his droppings in one nice big pile in front of his bed - how sensible! The odd extra one is done in the bed. He also doesn't walk round much (eating/sleeping type mine likes to save his energy) so I've found Aubiose nice and absorbent for the wet and don't have to take much out every day. I used Hunter shavings previously but wouldn't go back. Also tried Easibed briefly but didn't find it very absorbent.

Ditto I'm struggling to get some at the moment Sacre Bleu! - apparently it is only cut once a year so if they haven't cut it this year we're up a gum tree :( I think I will contact them direct (with A level French!) to find out what's happening.

That probably wasn't the most sensible of my posts - what I should have said was if you can't get Aubiose because of problems with the French harvest could you not use Hemcore instead? We seem to grow a fair bit of flax/hemp now and don't think our harvest has been too bad this year, although I know everything has gone up in price.

I live in France at the moment, which was another reason for going the Aubhiose route as it is produced here, trust me to want to give it a go the same year they haven't produced any...!
I'd best get on the phone on monday and see what I can find out..., thanks for all the positive feedback tho, makes the decision a lot easier.

I use Bliss. Aubiose is good but Bliss very similar re soaking up wee et, only cheaper. Good idea to try if you can't get aubiose.
