Aubiose bedding

I've always used pellets but one of mine started coughing so I put megaspread or other large flake shavings on top. The shavings contain the dust and the pellets do all the absorbing.

Cardboard is the only truly dust free bedding I've ever used but I found it difficult to manage.
Cardboard is good for dust, but unless it’s the ‘chopped eggbox’ stuff, there can be a bit of run off before it starts absorbing the wet.
My preference is always quality straw bedding(!), but have sometimes had to find beds for allergic or COPD horses, spent an absolute fortune on all types of top premium brands, and been thoroughly disillusioned with so called dust-free products.
The very best I’ve ever found was bales of shredded newspaper - surplus, unsold, unused, broadsheet publications - diced and baled specifically for animal bedding. On top of rubber mats - warm, absorbent, dustless - brilliant!
Our supplier retired and we no longer have the allergic horse, so unsure how available it is now, but was a lot cheaper and more effective than Aubiose, for example.

Has anyone used Burleybed?
Yes, I didn't like it. I found it went mouldy very quickly and it was dusty. I don't like their Haylage either. I'm an Aubiose convert now. It's not much more expensive that shavings, but lasts a lot longer and gardeners can use it on the garden as compost.

I have found a place that sells a version of it quite a bit cheaper so may try that.
Anyone used this?

Just to give you all a laugh...
I was in my local feedstore today trying to source AquaMax pellets, which have been out of stock for a while. I noticed a stack of Aubiose outside the door, and on the strength of this thread, and never having tried it before, thought I'd give it a go.

Me: "3 bags of Awbwah please."
Feedstore person:"What??"
Me: "Awbwaaaah....Orbois...?"
Her (without a hint of a smile): "Awbeeoze (Aubiose)."
Me: "Ah. I thought it was French...."

I was so befuddled by my own attempts at french pronunciation that I coughed up the £14.50 (yes that's £14.50!!) a bag without a murmur😂

I’ve used this in the past, good bedding, but wouldn’t use it for a dust intolerant horse. Can be dusty when first opened and the bed moves a lot when new, less dusty than burley bed tho. Have you tried swish rape straw at all? Least dusty of all the rape straws I’ve tried

Haha I thought it was awbwah at first as I didn’t know anyone else who used it so assumed that was how it was pronounced.

Im glad its not just me that does not know how to say it! I pay over £13 a bale and thought that was bad enough! It is very good but its expensive. There is a place a few miles away that does it for £10 something but I do not get over there very often.

Due to my horse having breathing issues have had to change bedding from wood pellets. I like Aubiose but its fairly expensive. Any other bedding recommendations? Horse is fairly wet but have rubber matting too.
I found cardboard the best - yes it’s expensive but there is nothing that compares in terms of dust levels sadly!

I agree, cardboard is the only totally dust free bedding ( which surprised me TBH). I really liked how warm it was, and I found the square chpped cardboard easier than the shreds to muck out. The horses seemed to like it too - they were always happy to sleep flat out in it.
I gave up on it because it continuously formed a urine papier-mache in their hooves, despite being OCD on keeping the bed clean and picking out hooves.

I have one with asthma and one with equine airways disease, I use easy bed for pony and aubiose for the rest

I use a bag of Aubiose spread out under thick straw for my extremely wet mare who wees indiscriminately everywhere!
I just pick out wet when it comes to the surface and dig out and replace about every 3 weeks or so. Honestly, it's been absolutely brilliant, saves me so much time as I have two to do each day now.
