I have just switched my mare onto this bedding and each morning I am turning out she is super sweaty. Has anyone else had this problem? I can only think it is the bedding as nothing else has changed.
Thanks

Well, the temperature has been up and down, some big variations, especially if your stable has limited airflow? Is she otherwise calm, or might she be stressing / box walking about something?
Occasionally, rats and mice tunnel into deep litters, can be disturbing for horses.
I do not like aubiose or similar, because I prefer all the droppings and all the wet, urinated patches of bedding removed daily, whereas fans of aubiose tend to let the bed ‘absorb’ moisture, and swell.
Some people find this convenient / time saving; personally consider it unhygienic and it certainly builds up heat beneath. That kind of dense, compacted bedding kept in that kind of way definitely retains more heat, and particularly if laid on top of stable mats.
If you muck hemp bedding out thoroughly, daily, it will prove very expensive.

more likely to just be coincidence......i had to swap my 2 back to MW rugs yesterday as they had gotten warm under the HW they have been in for about 10 days!

I would say it's a coincidence - my two boys have been swapping between medium weight turnouts with no necks, no fill turnouts with no necks and lightweight turnouts with a neck - it's like rug roulette each morning at the moment! x

I used to take all wet out everyday with straw pellets but now only take it out when it shows through and I have to disagree with you about it being less hygenic. If anything it's more hygienic as the bed is more stable and gets less mixed up and I can't say I've ever noticed about more heat in the bedding.

If the wet wasn't taken out when it started to come through or the bed isn't deep enough then I agree that it's not great. Also I'm not a fan of completely deep littering something like straw but that's a completely different ball game to something like aubiose and pellets.

I agree. My horse is on aubiose, poo removed daily and the red dirty bedding removed at the weekend. The bed is deep and dry, not unhygienic in the slightest.

If this is working for you, that’s good.
The ‘dirty red bedding’ is urine soaked and beginning the process of decomposition, albeit under a layer which is deep enough to remain dry until the weekend (or whenever). Decomposition is what generates heat, outside on a steaming muck heap or within the housing, deep litter of whatever composition always generates heat, more intense the longer it is compacted for.

I deep litter on aubiose and it doesn't give off heat. I do have an unclipped horse sweating in the field though this week. She's retired and I haven't clipped her in years, but if this carries on I might need to do something.

Not even got that thick a coat.

Certainly warm at present!
