Aubiose, Bedmax shavings or miscanthus?

It has such large flakes that it drains rather than absorbs, which would be not so bad if your stable floor was concrete with those old fashioned herringbone drains marked in it.

It needs to be deep bedded and always have a base of damp flakes, then it absorbs masses.

Haha does anyone have anything good to say about bedmax?! Why are they so bad?

Bedmax is only useful if you are not someone who believes that every flake of your horses bed should be white and fluffy. I'm bemused by the current idea that horses beds should be 100% clean. After all, the first thing they do when they get on them is crap and pee.

I'm old school. I was taught that floors should be cushioned with partly used bed with clean on top, whatever the bedding. These days we mat the floors and want the beds clean. It's such a terrible waste of bedding.

I used it as you say but I just didn't like working with it. He's on mats, poo taken out as needed and the wet taken out every few months. I just found bedmax to be awkward for me.

Tbh my gold standard bedding was Equisorb but it's no longer available.

I have used Bedmax for years and it works well for me. I initially started using it as found it was the best bedding for a horse with asthma, the dust in the air from many other "dust free" or " dust extracted" brands was a rather a shock! I find it easy to muck out, I take the wet out fully every day with one and every few days with the other and have no problem shaking the clean bedding through a fork when taking out droppings. I am on a budget so clean bedding doesn't get thrown out! My stables do have good drainage though. I've tried other types of occasionally when I've struggled to get it (the non asthmatic gets it first!) and haven't found any other that is as dust free as bedmax which is the biggest priority for me.

Eta, I haven't particularly found a problem with absorbancy with it, I find the smaller bits gravitate to the bottom of the bed and absorb well.
