Auchinleck BE lost

For those not on FB:

Sadly the rumours that we will not be allowed to run again in 2014 are correct, however there is a slim possibility that if we run only Novice to 80cm classes we might be given a date, although I don't feel optimistic about this happening! Let's hope I'm wrong!!
However keep watching this space as if July 21st is our last horse trials after 30 years, I will make it really special with prizes to remember the event with.

Such a shame - any idea why?

I've competed unaffiliated at Auchinleck and it's a fab venue - hopefully the unaffiliated events can still run but such a shame that BE is lost!

None but it sounds like it's not their choice. Surely BE wouldn't axe a Scottish event when we've lost so many?

There has been chat about insurance premiums being 2 high due to the event cancelling year on year.

However much of that is true i do not know. V sad though...

Feel so gutted for Aly and the team. They try so hard and with so many set backs in recent years but suspect difficulty in getting insurance cover could be part of it.

Strange - on BE's FB, they've said:-

"Scottish and Northern Events:
Following several enquiries British Eventing would like to confirm that a decision to cancel future events at Auchinleck has not been made; suitable dates for the event in 2014 are currently being explored. It is hoped that the event will be hosting classes at Grassroots through to Novice level."

There is a news update on BE website which states:

Scotland and Northern Region update
Following several enquiries British Eventing would like to confirm that a decision to cancel future events at Auchinleck has not been made; suitable dates for the event in 2014 are currently being explored. It is hoped that the event will be hosting classes at Grassroots through to Novice level.

New events for 2014:
BE are pleased to announce that new fixtures in Scotland in 2014 will include Dalkeith (dates TBC) plus Brechin will be making a welcome return for May 2014. A new CCI* and CCI** has been tendered for and site inspections will take place before the end of June, with a further announcement shortly thereafter.

Over the border in Carlisle there will also be another new event for the region taking place at Warwick Hall, which will provisionally take place in May 2014.

Further events in the region are currently under discussion; we will post further updates in due course.

This is getting even more absurd. BE will let them run everything except Intermediate if a date can be found yet there are hardly any Intermediate events in Scotland.

But sadly that’s the point, as there are so few Intermediates in Scotland BE need to feel confident that the ones which have a date will be able to run. Just count how many times it has had to cancel in the past ten - way above the average for nearly every other BE event. Cancelling events is not cheap for the abandonment fund; repeat cancellations of the same event ends up costing the members and puts up our entry fees. My Scottish based horses have had many fun outings at Auckinleck but I totally understand why BE would want to find another venue which is more likely to run.
