Hi all,

Just wondering what people make of the Audi Allroad?

I would tow with it very occasionally i.e. when OH's 4x4 isn't available, but in general was wondering if they were nice and what costs are like to service etc. Would be running on biodiesel, so fuel consumption isn't an issue.

Cheers!

we've got a 2 year old Allroad which we are just about to sell as I am getting a company car. Have never towed with it, even though it has got a tow bar. It is a wonderful car to drive and I will really, really be sad to see it go. Servicing is about £300 a time, but how often will depend on how many miles you do. I've done 45,000 in mine and it has had 3 services in that time. Tyres aren't cheap, you just need to shop around. The off road ability is brilliant. We had the tow bar on so that I could use it to tow if I hadn't got access to our Trooper, but the need has never arisen.

i had a passat estate 1.9tdi that towed my single trailer and it was fine so am sure the allroad can tow more - only thing i would say check whether can use biodiesel its really only good on older diesel engines - we used it on my 2002 landrover freelander and it buggered the fuel filter up and cost me couple hundred quid having replaced and all engine cleaned - didnt really save me any money in long run

i love the look of the allroad looks like a lovely car and audi are very reliable

I have the All Road this is my second one. Been very pleased with both. Do not have a tow bar as I have a lorry. I am sure that it would tow ok. Check it out with the dealer. I clocked up 160,000 on the first only 3 years old. Hard to belive but most of that was doing the twice daily trip to and from the yard 18 miles each way. So gald to have moved house and now only have 2 miles each way. As nightrider said the tyres are not cheep. Love taking off road great fun. Gets very much used for what it was designed for. The dealer often has commented on that when it goes in for a service or as last week its MOT and there is half a stable yard of rugs, wisps of hay and straw in it!! But that is what OH bought it for. Take one for a test drive I think you will like it. OH very rarely get the chance to drive mine!

Thank you all - I'm looking at an older one, rather than newer - nightrider, I'm guessing yours will be well out of my price range!

As for biodiesel, I'm being careful with that too - the car I have at the mo' has a common rail engine which has copper in it and hence is no good for bio, but all of the VW engines, particularly prior to 2002, are designed with bio in mind, hence my consideration of the allroad.

I also used to tow occasionally with a passat (love passats!) but often found it a bit gutless low down in the gearbox and hence a bit clutchy!

It sounds as if the allroad drives very nicely!

We're looking for £20k for ours. I am hoping my YO might buy it, they have asked for first refusal. Only problem is they want it before Xmas and delivery of my company car is not until mid January!!!! Looks like I might be hiring a car for a while - As long as its got sat nav it shouldn't be too bad as I couldn't manage without that!!!!
