I've got my working holiday visa and as my current job winds down there is no need for the staff, (I'm on good terms with my employer and just a casual contract, when there's the horses there's the work)

Anyway I'm looking to go to Australia for about 3 months possibly longer and wondered if anyone had any ideas about finding jobs. I've got no set date or location as ideally want to have a job before I go.

I have a stud background, bought up on a farm, small animal vet referral practice exp and currently do quarantine work for horses that are going to Australia

Many years ago I went out on a working holiday visa and picked up work as a polo groom through a company called Stablemate. They no longer do the short term recruitment but may still be able to point you in the right direction - Brenda (the MD) is a former Brit who migrated out there and I worked for her on and off for several years (having secured an extension to my visa!).
Lots of opportunities to do horsey work out there and to experience some very different environments - I did a season as a polo groom, a season of ranch work (rounding up cattle on horseback, general farm stuff), a season of droving and a bit of polocrosse, campdrafting work - some of the best years of my life :-)

When are you wanting to go? I am hoping to go myself in Sept for 3 months. Gumtree have jobs listed, you could also go with a company and they will sign you up to job agencies.

i used yard and groom when i was there and i got a job working in a hunting yard.. Which is a totaly different experience to hunting in Ireland.. i also got a job working in a polo yard.. If you look up jackaroo ror jillaroo in google you would find jobs mustering and working on cattle ranches

Email the Australian version of the HPA (polo) and see if they have a list of clubs you can email your details to as polo grooms are always needed short term due to the seasonal match fixtures plus you'll get to travel around for tournaments! I did it in NZ and it was great and easy to find work

You could ask Heath Ryan. He sometimes has International people come over and help out at Ryans. :) You might find some good contacts from him. Also working for an Olympian has to be a plus!! Info is on his website... http://www.ryanshorses.com.au/page/training.html

You could have a look on Cavaletti too. There is an employment Tab. www.cavaletti.com.au

Stockyard might be of use, but it is mostly Western Australia based. www.stockyard.net

Also Racing Jobs may help. http://www.racingjobs.com.au/ which is Australia Wide.
