Auto immune… cancer

We had a weigh in again today and has managed to lose a bit, only a couple of hundred grams but it’s galling. He is on 3 meals a day. He looks good but should still be gaining. He’s such a stress head though. He is over adrenalised from 6am to 10pm. He settles ok in the house but if I move, he moves.

Well he’s still being a nuisance. On the vet recommended Royal Canin he looks amazing but itches like you wouldn’t believe. He chews himself and if you touch him his hind leg goes. Another very processed food (Ci) he looks ok on but loses weight. I put him on skinners with the others and the itching has stopped but he’s lost weight and his coat doesn’t look so good. 🤦‍♀️.
So I’m putting him back on the RC to see if possibly the itching was an environmental thing, which seems unlikely but I may as well have ruled out as much as I can before I see the vet.
I am considering raw, just for him, even though I’ll be bankrupt! £40 a week for NM though, that’s made me pause.

What's he like on Millies Wolfheart single protein?

There are much better and cheaper Raw suppliers that NM. I think The Dogs Butcher may be down your way. I've swapped from Raw to Cold pressed. Wilsons. They all look great on it. Not too much rubbish added and cold pressed is much better nutritionally then kibble. It looks like small pony nuts.

If you want to try some I have a discount code.

We have changed our collie from James well beloved biscuits to pooch and mutt plus a mix of Harrington's wet food and chappie ... No more bad stomachs and it's not financially crippling...

Hope you find the right match

No kibble thank you, we’ve tried them all.

MWH no better than any others.
Will look at cold pressed but will probably confer with the vet before shelling out on yet another food.
Will also look for cheaper raw.

If he is itching on a hydrolysed diet (Ci is hydrolysed, not sure which RC you were using - I'm sure you told me!) but with no extras/treats/other stuff added then the food isn't the problem - the whole point of hydrolysed is that the proteins are in such small units that they don't cause immune sensitisation. So then you are back to environmental allergies of some form.

I might try the Ci again. He lost weight on it, but not dramatically. He’s in 50/50 RC atm and his belly and round his bits have gone bright pink in the 2 days I’ve been transitioning

Following on from @druid 's recommendations of Peptides in another thread, I've been feeding CI Peptide fish alongside kangaroo meet. (Daisy had been chewing madly). Maybe worth a look?

Just to note - the Happy Dog tinned "pure" do state that other proteins may be present due to the manufacturing process so while they work for the majority of dogs they are not suitable for a true exclusion diet.

The Peptide Plus hydrolysed options are my go to for a hydrolysed diet these days

That looks interesting,of course we dont have it here :/ Ive been using Purina HA recently for mine, its vegetarian. The medicine vet also recommended a food based on black fly larvae.

My mysteriously itchy dog has become itch-free on the Yumove skin and coat oil. She was itching on Apoquel, which was draining my finances and we couldn't find a cause for the itching. I thought I'd give it a go when the Apoquel ran out and it has worked. Her coat is better than ever - not greasy and scurfy, even when she moulted.

DAF has a really good variety of raw. I’m very fortunate to have a good local supplier but i occasionally use DAF, they have a really good variety. Worth seeing if they deliver to your area.

NM is a bit crap and mine wont eat it. Birmingham Raw and a few others work out about that for a lab size dog inc delivery but are better quality

They are really useful in that they deliver every 2 weeks to most places. Mine like it and quality is fine, but theres been so much moaning about them and some dramatics about ill dogs due to too much bone in the mixes. I havent had an issue but not sure I'd want to risk it with a really sensitive dog.
