Automatic 4x4 in the snow

My Jeep was fantastic in the snow, the only problem I had was going down a very steep hill, in the end I had it in low gears and 1st and just took my feet off of everything and let the engine control my speed.

Our auto Range Rover is fab in the snow - better than our previous manual - just put it in Low, 1st gear and it stays slow and stable - it's fab! (ETA It's the older P38 model - don't know how the new smart RR Sport performs)

Automatic jeep - fab...4x4 on, into drive, off i go :D:D

(I do live in cambridge though, no real hills to try!!)

I have a Range Rover Sport HSE and it's been brilliant in the snow. If it's really bad you can select the terrain setting for snow and ice.

I live in very steep hilly country and have an automatic 4x4 - it has been bloody brilliant :D Just use 1st in 4WD - I haven't slipped yet (OK, maybe once but our lane is sheet ice!)

Ive got a pajero and wilst the roads have been icy have just stuck into thr 4wd first mode and its been perfect, weve had over a 1 and a half of snow here and I've been fine!

I think there better as you dont need to use gears etc to slow down. would never go back to a manual car again!

Ditto - I wouldn't have survived the past week without the Paj - our drive is steep and an ice rink. The bloody 4wd tractor wouldn't go up it - so the Paj has been sailing up and down, and across fields, carting haylage and water.

Also pulled several BIG vehicles up the drive!

When I lived in Boston, I had a 4x4 GMC Jimmy (oh, I so wish I had that now) that was automatic - and it was just fab. Having said that now - I have an automatic FWD Honda Civic - it's not brilliant, but I can manage with it even with our deep snow. But I do tend to wait til the plows have been round at least once first.

Have an auto Hilux Surf, its v. old but been fab this week. It has switchable 2 + 4WD and a Low and 2nd gear. Theres nowhere it can't go!
Hubby pinched it to use for work on Friday though...

automatic freelander has coped very well, snow, ice, blizzards. love it.

Although it was not so impressed when I mistook a snow drift for the road and buried the poor thing upto its bonnet - twice.

My Auto Disco is great in this snowy weather.

It has traction control so even in 2wd it goes over the snow well. It also has a down hill restriction switch that slows the engine down in a lower gear when going down hill. There is also an other switch that moves into sports mode and delays the car from changing gear which is great in this weather.

Been through heavy snow and icy roads with no problems.

We have automatic jeep and it's amazing. We live up a steep dirt track and when it's thick with snow it's almost impossible to go up it, except with the jeep! When it's really bad I drive it in 4WD 1 so it can't go out of 1st gear which is good for going down hills. It has 4wd low but I've never needed to use it as it copes totally fine :)

I've got a Delica too, best car I've ever had! Nearly a foot of snow packed to solid ice on most roads and in 4wd it doesn't notice it at all!

Its one ugly car but my god its good and you fit a lot of people in it too, us and a couple of others here in the village with 4 x4s did an en masse tesco run for people. True community spirit :D

Have an auto Honda Accord, front wheel drive which copes quite well in the snow, but obviously not as good as our auto Discovery.

Can drop down the gears in both of them for engine braking.

We have a really old smelly damp cold embarassing auto pajero that I would love to get rid of and swop for something sexier. Trouble is it is just so good in the ice and snow other half keeps on giving it one more year , one day my prayers will be answered and it will fail its mot with something really expensive!

My Deli isn't ugly! I've got four kids so it's perfect spacewise for us, plus it tows brilliantly. Last year we spent ages towing people back out of our lane after they got stuck in the village, even a couple of delivery lorries! We have the lwb so it's a bit of a beast, but very easy to drive and park. Weirdest thing tho is how Delica owners always wave at each other on the road, it's like being in a club!

I've got an old auto Pajero too and it is the best, I should really look for something newer and less thirsty but it gets me out of trouble time and time again!

The tractor couldn't even get up our drive at the yard but my Jeep was the only car that could get up there :)
