Old user, new account as I forgot all my old log in details...

I'm looking to get rid of my Jeep and trailer as I have no need for two cars (I have a Prius for commuting) and instead get a box. I've got a pre 1997 licence so don't need to take a test. BUT I can only drive automatic due to a knackered knee from playing hockey as a kid!

So I'm looking for suggestions for automatic boxes that can take 2 x 16.2hh horses (weighing roughly 550kg each), plus driver / passenger / all tack etc.

I'm not to bothered about size as I'm used to managing a Grand Cherokee and ifor 510 in very small spaces. I'm thinking about a 4t / 5t.

I'd love to have a small bit of living, just enough to shelter from the rain - so a seat and a loo perhaps - for those long days at shows.

All thoughts on what to go for and what/who to avoid massively welcome. And any other suggestions.

Thanks

I have an auto Renault Masta 3.9 tonne. It is giving 29 to the gallon.

As to the ride, it is better than a big wagon at slowing down, on hills it changes down all by itself and gives a great ride. EG to come off the motorway with air brakes it was an art to smoothly stop on a downhill exit to stop at the roundabout, but with this one I drive off the motorway, and it decelerates for me on the downhill slope, and I only have to finish the job off with the brakes if we can't go.

The acceleration is more disappointing, especially when the vehicle is cold.

Mine was made by Bloomfields. Long waiting list, but well worth the wait.

having an automatic makes things so much easier. Ours is a dream to drive compared with our old manual one.

We bought our Euro 6 chassis direct from DAF and had it delivered to the coach builder. Don't know if that would be an option for you?

If you're looking for suggestions, have a look at Kevin Parker. Lovely boxes, good build quality and great customer service.
