i own a fantastic jumping fizzy cob, As like any tubby cob she has a short stumpy new < but a powerful one. I ride her in a water ford gag on snaffle ring, with a crank nose band, NO MARTINGALE! but if any horse goes infront of her, or if she is at a show, or aim her at a xc jump, she lifts her neck up and tucks her head in but then leaps forward !!! and buggers off towards the jump (going so fast she can't see the god dam jump). How can i stop this because its becoming a f**king pain.

ppractise placing poles at home to stop her rushing at the fence, or maybe try plenty of gridwork to get her thinking and slowing down. if you really have no brakes out xc-might be safer in the meantime to put your rains on the second ring as the reins on the snaffle ring is no stronger than an ordinary snaffle.

also when schooling at home, put a jump up in the school but DONT jump it, just ride her round and past until she stops assuming she is jumping. this should get her used to seeing jumps without leaping at them like a bat out of hell!!
with other horses, its really a case of getting her used to it-im guessing its excitement, so the more often she goes to shows and sees other horses etc she will get bored of charging off hopefully!

To me there are 3 things here, firstly schooling and tack - bits etc, then there's exercise and energy and then there's food and energy.

There was an interesting article in Your Horse magazine last month or month before I think, which talked about which bits suited which sort of "runaways". They described 3 types - like you have or the horse that sticks his head in the air and runs off or the horse that dives his head down and runs off. I wish I could remember which bits were for which. The other thing I would suggest is to check his work/feed/fun schedule. Is he too fit for what he's doing? Does he get a chance to get a good blow out either in the field or with you on him? Is he getting "fizzy" food?

Then there's his schooling, can you take him x country schooling, or in a situation where there are other horses and school in that situation.

Good luck
