avatar pics help

can anyone explain (really simply) how to make a pic small enough to put on as avatar? all i can do is chop a bit of the sky off mine, despite trying to compress cant seem to get it to the 10000pixels required. must be an easier way to do it

Hi, do you have a program called "Picture Manager" on your computer? Comes with Microsoft Office on Windows XP, I think. If you open your picture with this program, then click on "Picture" in the top toolbar right under the blue bit at the top. Second to last option in this drop down menu is "resize", select that and a box with options will open on the right of the picture. Select "Custom width&height" and type in the number of pixels for each. Around 80-85pixels in each dimension should give you a small enough picture I think. Also, cropping the picture a little to make it more or less square makes it easier.
If you haven't got the program or if your having problems with it you can e-mail me the picture if you want and I'll have a go for you. Can you tell I've been shown how to do this by a pro?
