Average price of hay

The price of hay at my yard has gone up to £5 a bale which I think is ridiculous. At my previous yard it cost £3.60 per bale.
I am based in essex and would like to know what other people pay these days.
Also interested in the going rate for haylage, a bale is £25 but this only lasts about a week.
I have a 16.2 gelding.

I've just paid £3.50 per bale delivered for normal sized hay bales. Huge haylage bales are £25.

We sell ours at £2 for regular customers and £2.25 for others.
Good quality hay and proper sized small bales.

God in that case I am getting totally ripped off. I can only assume it must be at a premium in Essex.
Does anybody know of a reasonable supplier in or around Essex.
This is costing a fortune at the min and he will need even more in Winter.

I think it really does vary depending on where you are... around about £5 a bale isn't unusual in hertfordshire (although I agree, it is a bit pricey!) although I only pay £3...

I am in herts and paying 3.50 a bale and get it off YO who probably marks it up a bit.

There always seems to be lots of people advertising hay in Chiltern Rider and you can look at the classifieds for free on line.

3.00 round here and 25 quid for a big bale £5 quid is way too much some of mine cud eat a bale in a day that size in a day

£3.50 for nornal size hay. £35 for big rounds of haylage - my supplier said probably about 18 bales of hay in them. I am on Suffolk / Essex border and I do know that there is unfortunately going to be a shortage round here this winter

I had 200 normal sized bales delivered and paid £2.25 a bale, and he has 50 in the barn for me. However I have always had my hay fom him. Managed to get another 100 for a bargain £2.00 a bale from another local farmer. All lovely clean sweet hay.

I pay £2.15 per bale delivered and stacked in South Lincs.
No weeds or dust, and all mine love it.

I am in Essex, we pay £4 a bale of hay and £5.50 for small bale haylage. Im not far from you, PM me if you want a few suppliers numbers.

Im in Nottinghamshire, I have the large bales of hay for £25 (about as big as haylage bale) haylage in my area is anything from £25-£32 depending on what grade. Small bales of hay are about £3
