Average stable size

Hi all,

I am trying to get an idea of the average stable size/ see how much variety there is in stable size.

I would be grateful if you could let me know what size your stable is and whether it is an old or new build!

Yes, 12 x 12 is the standard sized stable. I have three newish wooden that are 12 x 12, a wooden 16 x 12, a newish brick built building with three 12 x 12 boxes and one 14 x 12 box, a 10 x 18 wash box and a 18 x 18 tackroom.
 
We have everything from an 8-12 with a L out of it to a 14x12. Our purpouse built new ones are 12x12, most ours are in old farm buildings in whatever gap there is though and having a yard of 12 under 14hh gives some flexibility ;)
 
Our 2 new build at home are 12x12 wooden ones.

My mares box at the yard is 12x16 she is 16.3 id x and tbh I wouldn't want her in anything smaller now.
 
I have 3 x 12 x 15 and 2 of 11 x 15. These are 8 year old concrete built stables, width dictated by old walls. Love the 12x15, wouldn't want anything smaller now. Make way less mess.
 
Coped for many years with horses up to 15.3hh in two pony sized boxes (approx 9ft 10ins by 11ft 10ins), which were made in a wooden former field shelter which we divided into two. The horses always liked them, funnily enough, but they were cramped.

Now I have two 12' by 14' stables, and one 12' by 16' corner box, which seemed HUGE at first but now seem 'normal'.
 
I have a barn with home made wooden partitions, so I can change the layout and stable sizes if I want. At the moment I have 2 12x14 with 14hh in them, and 2 12x16 with a 15hh and a 17hh. These sizes work for us at the moment. Wouldn't want anything smaller :)
 
14 x 14 . . . seemed enormous at first, but now I'm accustomed to it . . . and, tbh, given that Pops is 16.3hh and very leggy, I'd struggle to see him anything smaller now.

4 of 12 x 12 ((newish build) and 4 much much older wooden ones that are about 10ft 6ins square, there were the saddling boxes at an old race course that closed early in the 20th century. It's surprising how much difference that extra foot or so makes.
 
I first applied for a block of 3 x -12 x 14 I think 12 x 12 is small for any thing 15h +, after a re think I got 2 x - 12 x 16s. I love them to be fair my boy is 17.1 but I really would not put him in a 12 x12. My 2yo whos only 15h looks a little lost in his lol, I still have planning for a 12 x 12 on the end!
 
Mine are 18x16. They are huge. Would never have smaller again.

The horses are much looser by being able to move so much and so much tider for it too
