I might be taking on my first full loan soon. I'm just wondering if there is any average time a contract lasts for, e.g. 6 months, one year? Thanks :)

Completely depends on what the owner is looking for. If they are thinking longer term then it’s usually a one year rolling contract. There is always a notice period/break clause though

Thanks, that's really helpful. I was imagining at least one year but I'll see what the owner says :)

I had a yearly contract to begin with, based on the BHS template, which included a one month break clause on both sides. We did it as a yearly thing to begin with as I'm a novice owner, and she had been let down on previous loans, so we were both cautious. That then changed to a permanent loan contract, again with a one month break clause. The only difference with making it permanent was that every year I wouldn't get The Fear that his owner would take him back when we needed to renew.

I had a 6 month rolling contract when I loaned one of mine...worked out awkwardly as I had decided I wanted her back after 6 months and the loaner clearly assumed I would renew and booked and paid for training past the time the loan would have ended :|
