I've got the dry oil body spray as heard it's good against flies and midges. To those of you who use it - do you water it down and if so in what proportions? Do you find it effective? Do you use all over including saddle patch? Any advice gratefully received!

I've used it for years! Never watered it down (but always patch tested it first!).

Lovely stuff, don't think it works fantastically but does the job out hacking. Makes the coats lovely and soft too :D

As cobrastyle says do a patch test first but use it neat. Been using for years and brilliant fly repellent and you and your needy smell great too!

All over, undiluted - Horse AND you! He will smell lovely and you will both be fly free! :D

Watch out though, when (and if!!) we get some sun, it has no SPF for you.

I've used it neat for more than 20 years with success against the good old Scottish midgie

Definitely dont water down but if you have 'solids' left in the bottle add vegetable oil
Quite sure it is the oil which stops the midges biting
However IF??? we get some sunny weather take care--risk of sunburn.

I remember leaving a bottle in the stable over winter and the whole thing had solidified!
Great tip about vegetable oil, I never knew what to do with it once it had hardened!

if you have foals, rub some onto the mare's sides where the foal's head goes when they feed and it will rub off on the foals too to give them a bit of protection. Easier to do than trying to get a foal to stand still when very young.

Speaking for my own mosquito-attractant skin/blood, I don't think it works. Sorry! I've tried everything, including Skin So Soft, always get bitten to buggery in hot countries. Nothing has ever made a difference. Ex was rarely bothered by mozzies, they just feasted on me. I even had to have one bite surgically removed as it went a bit weird.
But that is just me. Hopefully, it will do the biz for your horse.

I use it all the time on my horse and really rate it. It goes solid when it's cold so you either have to remember to take it home with you at night to keep it warm or just stand it in a bowl of hot water for a couple of minutes. It's great stuff and will make your horse's coat sooo soft and shiny. I buy it in bulk on ebay - much cheaper :)
