Awesome quotes from horsey people....

Ouch indeed!

Mine is "yesterday may have been crap, but that was yesterday. Today is a new day so forget it happened."

ETA: Caol Ila - you changed it!! That confused me! :o

Love this poem:

I talked to a friend just the other day

who’s got lots of opinions and plenty to say.

We discussed what we both like to see in a horse

his requirements and mine were different of course.

He likes a clean throatlatch and a long skinny neck,

and prefers that their hocks are set close to the deck.

Short backs and hard feet and clean slopin’ shoulder,

and a gaskin that looks like it swallered a boulder.

He likes a short face and a big ol’soft eye,

and says these are the horses he’s likely to buy.

And when he’d completed his lengthy discourse,

on all of the attributes of the quality horse,

he asked my opinion, and where do I start?

And I said that I…just want horses with heart.

I said I want heart above all the other.

I don’t care if he’s Smart Little Lena’s full brother.

Or just how much money that his grandmother won,

Or whether he’s roan, palomino or dun.

But give me a horse with some grit and some try,

and some heart and some guts and that’s one that I’ll buy.

It may be the half pint of strong Cornish Cider (I don't drink) but this just made me well up! Not like me at all!

Someone told my Dad when I got my first pony - 'anything that can go wrong with horses will go wrong, but it'll make you really appreciate the good bits'

From an instructor
'well you're the one on the horse, I can't ride it for you'

"A horse will always make a liar of you" is very true.........

Oh and while standing in the line up of a totally grey connemara championship the judges made their decision and the the steward stepped forward, pointed to the line up and said.....

"Can we have the GREY pony please?" cue several grey ponies stepping forward....!

A dressage rider was taking questions after a demonstration- he was asked how he stopped his grand prix horse from its habit of bolting, he replied "I pulled harder than the horse" - couldn't have put it in plainer english! :)

"The horse is only as good as the rider" not sure about this, as you do get cases of Brill horse, @hit rider.

"To make a small fortune in horses, start off with a large one"

"Do NOT come off that pony", i was more scared of my riding instructor so clung on for dear life :rolleyes:

Said of a not very good driving horse, "Pull? He couldn't pull the skin off custard." And of a poor driver, "He couldn't drive a nail." My favourite, to a nervous rider approaching a large fence at speed, "Kick like hell and close your eyes!"

Heard quite often in a local riding school ......"And breathe"

Oh yes!

About 3 years ago I did the novice SJ for the riding club, after the first round, I got out the ring and fainted! I have this habit of holding my breath....

Anyway, during round 2, after each time, the girl on the gate yelled 'BREATHE!!' at me...

:D

Something my instructor told me that I thought was quite smart;
"You can't ride for anybody but for yourself! If you lose, they'll laugh and if you win they'll say you don't deserve it"

^ Very true :). Can't please the horsey world - so might as well do what makes you happy. (look at Gal for example. He holds the world record for the highest dressage score and still manages to get slated)
