I bought a limpet pad for the welsh cob at Badminton yesterday to help with her treeless saddle slipping. Rode her in it today and, after clearing a log, she bolted, then stopped, bronked and reared - I managed to stay on but only with great difficulty, and then took off again. This is totally out of character for her, and I can only attribute it to the new pad. But could it really cause such a reaction? Thoughts please.. thankyou

yes it could. I have seen some horses react very badly to the limpet and also to the NEW mesh. it stops the saddle slipping by 'sticking' it to the horses back. i saw one horse where the hair had been removed and the back was raw. I know others that have absolute success with them - but I guess it depends on your horse

Sounds possible, they are very sticky. I have a neoprene style non slip pad for sale if you want to try a different one

Surely the saddle shouldn't slip if correctly fitted? I've never been a believer in these non slip pads as think surely it would annoy the horse?

depends on the overall shape of the horse. my youngster has a nice round rib cage but had relatively narrow shoulders. even though the saddle fitted it did sometimes used to move forwards so I used a stephens sticky gel pad. he is ultra sensitive and didnt mind one of those. now he's more mature and filled out we dont have a problem.

you are supposed to put it on 20 mins beforehand to let the limpet warm up but this never realy worked for my boy who also bucked and bronked (not like him) I would get you money back as they are very expensive. in the end it was my saddle and I got a new ideal saddle for the wider breed never slips now.
