Am thinking about taking my 1 year old to a little local show this weekend!!

Depending on how he goes it will either be a little walk around or the Youngstock class.

Practiced with him being 'shut in' the lorry last night a he was a little nervous but took it all in his stride really and after 1/2 an hour was still happily munching his hay in there....The local show is a 20 minute drive away from the yard so a nice short trip :)

Tried an inhand bridle with a little bit in his mouth and again was very happy carried on munching his hay!

BUT!!!!!!!!! Im a little scared! Do I just bite the bullet?? Or should I wait until next year?

Bite the bullet and go for it:) if you think you've prepared him enough for it even if its just to unload him at the show walk him round load him up and go home again its a big step for a little fella. best do it whilst they are young get him seeing the world too. Good luck! x

Thank you LeannePip!! I just need to be positive!!

Tonight is trotting with bit in practice, loading and putting the engine on!!

He's a lovely boy really!! Have a feeling ill be dragged around the show field because he loves to say hello to people!! Whilst out on a little trip in the village he decided he wanted to say hello to a group of ramblers!! He doesnt get treats at all so its not for that he's just a VERY friendly little chappie!!

Definitely, it'll be a great experience for both of you! It sounds like you are very well prepared.

Good luck!

Thank you!!!! Ive been so impressed with him loading and taking the bit! Bless his furry feathers! He has his bonkers baby moments but we are doing quite well, he is my first youngster x

I would say do it know
, I acted like you , thinking oh my god
And did put it off , it didnt help in the slighist
And wished I had done it sooner
When he was smaller and more mangerable
As being bragged around a show ring by a 2 yr 16hh
Was not my idear of fun , to say now he is better
But if I had taken him when he was 13-14hh I would of had much more control and would not got dragged round the following year
