Sometimes when out hacking Axel will stop and spin round and be really looking in the distance, every time he does this there's something there, a walker with a dog or another horse etc, he must have very sensitive hearing!

Today he suddenly stopped span round, reared, went backwards and was snorting at something unheard by human ears, I assumed it was the big blue water container he was spooking at but when we got round the corner about 6 or 7 kids on ponies were hurtling towards us at full speed, they were quite far away but they were making noises of a hunting horn!

The other horse we were with hadn't reacted at all. But Axey must have been on the look out!
I just know now if he does something like that there's always something up ahead of us, without fail.

I know that feeling. However it's quite handy when your on your own and there is a car about 10 miles down the lane

Horses are so clever aren't they - H is a nightmare (or was) but when I got pregnant she turned into a pussy cat - totally mollycoddled me and looked after me when I rode - she nuzzled me and was sooooo affectionate - verrrrry strange behaviour for her!

PS - Axel has turned into one stunning grown up boy hasn't he!

If she's upset by something then I know that I should listen because she is normally as brave as a lion

Horses are very clever, and Axel seems to be very sensitive about everything. I used to think he was being a bit nappy but if he ever naps or does anything out hacking there's always something there, not sure its a good thing tho!

And Thank you, I can't quite believe he's 6 this year!

That's exactly what George did yesterday, although of course we did part company. He was stood firm head up, ears pricked and bugs eyed - so perhaps there was something there, I will in future listen out for the signs.
