Axey's been kicked now....

honestly am I ever going to get to ride him ever again!

Came in from field last night with a fairly small kick on the side of his knee, but it was really swollen.
I cold hosed it and then put his magnetic wraps on overnight. Gave him 2 bute in last nights feed and put another 2 in this mornings feed. The thing is he refused to eat either of them

This morning his knee is massively swollen, and when he bends his leg it sort of bulges out looking even worse. I cold hosed it again and then took him for a walk.
He is sound in walk, and when I trotted him for a few steps he's sound in trot too!!

Was going to ring the vet but I think it's going to be ok. I bought an Aerbourne cold wrap thing earlier, you put it in the freezer and strap it to the affected area for 20 mins.

Hopefully he'll be alright when I go back up there, he's been in all day.

Thank you, I think he's ok. I should imagine he got kicked pretty hard and it's just very bruised.
I'm clinging on to the fact that he was sound in trot, if he wasn't I was going to ring the vet.

abby hurt her legs last week, no heat not lame, just swollen, mum spoke to the vet and said it was good to let her out to get the circulation flowing, and if we felt like she needed it wrap it up at night (we didn't) so we basically treated her as normal, cold hosed her leg for 20 mins one night and let her out through the day 2 days later the swelling had completely vanished.

vet basically said things like that are best left to heal themselves, dunno if everyone would agree, but i took the vets advice and it worked.

so the swelling should go down fingers crossed

Thanks, he was fine tonight and it had gone down loads. I put the cold thing on his leg for 20 mins, and put him back in his stable.
It's the geldings turn to go out tomorrow so will turn him out all day. Would have put thim out today if I could!
