I have just called a local training centre to book an assessment lesson and the lady said I would need a secondary number plate and to ensure the car has a secondary system.

I am not sure what she is talking about and know one else was in the office for me to have a chat to so thought i would ask advice here.

If there is anything else I should be aware of before attending let me know and if anyone has done the test it would be great to have an idea of how many lessons you had.
I have been driving for 10years but never used a trailer myself.

Im not sure what shes talking about regarding the secondary number plate but have recently read that theyve changed the rules again and the trailer now has to have a calibrated weight of 600kg of load in the trailer, either builders sand or water in an ibc container. You might find it easier to use a vehicle and trailer from a b+e trainer

I am near Upminster in Essex.

It is a centre that also provides training for HGV/LGV ect and basically you use your own car and there trailer so I am assuming you need a spare number plate to put on the trailer?
Really not sure about the system, my car isn't that old so would think it is covered.

So has no one else had to do this?

No didn't know the rules had changed again I will take a look.
Surely they will have that covered I am not providing the sand:)

Does it have any other implications for the driver?

Hi I took my test using my own vehicle and trailer - you will need another number plate for their trailer.

With regards to the car secondary system I wonder if they are referring to a light on the dash or similar which will flash when the indicators on the trailer are working - my fourtrak had a light below the dash which flashed and my landrover has a little green trailer symbol which lights up.
