Can anyone recommend somewhere that offers an intensive course to get it over and done with as soon as possible?

Ask your local driving schools as most of them do it now and they normally offer all sorts of different courses, just depends on how much your prepared to spend in one go. My local does the training and test in one weekend, but that comes to approx £500.

near Sheffield but will travel anywhere if it means I can get it done!

If you're South Sheffield, I would recommend J.W Smithurst, I used him and I passed first time, and was by far the cheapest I found around me. The place is just off junction 26 off M1, so not sure if that would be too far for you or not.
