B*gger, nasty cut - think I've messed it up...

Personally, I'd be wanting to keep it covered (covered wounds do heal - I think there's been a medical u-turn on the theory of drying things out - wounds actually need to be kept moist whilst they're still fresh/angry/infected). I'd want antib's as well. Once the wound is starting to heal & the infection has passed, then it can be left uncovered with a nice (promtes healing...) gel that also repels flies; in addition to this, I'd use lots of Coopers around it although, remembering Coopers is quite evil, I'd give the wound a WIDE berth...

My opinion - bin the wound powder!
 
Have to say the 3 days its had covered with animalintex, a hot wet one the first day, 3 dry days, has pulled all the crap out and its looking much better and clean and healthy skin. Last night I put on a damp one with a natural antiseptic spray coating it and definately improving.

Vet is going to look it over re: anti b's but looking much better.
 
sorry i dont know the best course of action, but, a warning my vet told me about protocon, is that unless the wound is very very clean, protocon is such a good barrier it seals in everything and could trap in infection.

I would def call the vet but in the mean time use some stuff called CAMROSA. You cant use it with anything else but it d works a treat! Its def worth a try.

Vet says she doesn't need anti-b's, it looks like its healing fine and I'm to carry on with dry dressings as wet will cause proud flesh, and leave it open when there are no flies about.

She said she would have advised us to use Dermobion but its not about anymore.

So phew, haven't broken sisters pony at all!!!
 
A second for aloe vera, it is not an alternative to anitbiotics they are definitely needed, my boy put his leg through a gate and soared it down 2 bone! aloe vera is miraale worker, really helped the healing and preveneted minimal scar tissue, the Forever Living Products Aloe Vera Gelly is the best! I am not a salewomen for them i genuinely beleive in it! it helps the wound bind and heal! miracle stuff! but on the FLP oone, the one u can buy at saddlers not very good!

Dermobian is about, under a new guise.

Ilium Dermapred. I have a jar, the vet gave it to me only a couple of months ago.
