Hello,
Looking to find out what a B suffix means if anyone can help?
My new horse has a few "B" horses in her pedigree, eg Jalisco B, and I'm wondering what it means.
Also as she is unnamed currently, could I use B after her name when I reg her to keep the line?
Thanks!

It may mean the year they were born??? My mare was born in Holland and her name was Selma P, which I thought was awful, but someone told me later the 'P' was to do with the year they were born. She was born in 1999. I may be completely wrong though?!

The suffix is often to do with the breeder. This is the case with KWPN I believe but sure about other books. The first letter of the name denotes year of birth for KWPN.

I have a mare, Vamirette B, reg KWPN.
The B is goes back through her damline and I was told it was the breeder, 'B' from Buitenhuis.
Think your girl may be related to mine then?

I don't use KWPN but in all the other WB registries I'm a member of the following is how it works. Many breeders register a suffix or prefix. I have one so my youngsters can carry that suffix if I wish. If someone buys a filly from me (who is already named with the suffix) and wishes to breed her in future, her offspring are not entitled to use my suffix. I've just checked and Jalisco B was bred by Haras de B'Neville hence the B. If the mare you own was bred by Haras de B'Neville then it's firstly odd that they wouldn't have already registered, but if they just didn't for some reason then yes you could name her giving her the B suffix. If they did not breed her then you don't really have entitlement to use the B suffix.

Thanks all for your help!
Spring Feather that makes a lot of sense-now I know! I found out Jalisco B is a French bred Selle Francais line so definitely no KWPN involved.
She was bred in Ireland so no B for me!
