Hi so as some of you might know I have recently joined a new stables after 5 years at my old place (where I learnt to ride) and I have been helping out all week because it's school holidays. I have now got a regular lesson on Saturdays and I can stay the whole day. So basically when I joined there was a jumping comp going on when I was helping out and some of the girls were kinda ignoring me but one of them was really sweet and nice and I'm now in a lesson with her which is nice but some of the other girls (the ones that were ignoring me) didn't really welcome me but I'm not sure if it's just that I'm small for my age or whatever but I was letting them into the arena 1 by 1 for their rounds and wishing them good luck and complementing their outfits ect but they said thanks but after the round ignored me idk if it's just because I'm new or something but am I waisting my time trying to be friends with them? They seem like genuinely nice people but I just didn't feel very welcomed by them. Sorry for the ramble ?

Stop trying so hard, you are the new kid and they all know each other. Be polite and say hello, work hard and learn all you can and let friendships happen gradually.
Thanks, I'm quite awkward when it comes to friendships but I have already made friends with a couple of others so I'll give it time and hope it all works out!

When at a competition most people are pretty focused on the round they are about to do. The girls who were not very welcoming were most likely concentrating on their round. I know when I'm competing I'm very focused on getting around and keeping my very hyped up horse with me. The last thing on my mind is making friends. Hopefully in a more regular situation you'll see their real personality. My advice would be try not to try too hard. Be friendly but focus on spending time with the horses rather than the other people around you, if the people turn out to be nice that's a bonus.

There you go then, you have already made some friends which is great for only having been there a week. Just try not to overthink the situation and remember they might be feeling just as awkward as you are.
