B-way on OS map but Park sign says otherwise?

At the back of my house there is a large park with a path way that goes straight down the side to the bottom of the park, which is then, near to the lane/bridleway that I often hack down. On the ordinance survey map, this path in the park is marked as a bridle way but there is a little sign at the top of the park saying "no horseriders". As far as I know, the bridleway has not had a change of use put on it so could I legally ride down this path in the park since it's a bridleway on the OS map? I would not be galloping across the field (as much as I would like to) but it would be a nice loop in my hack to go up my street and then back down through the park to get back onto the lane to my yard.
 
How old is your OS map?

Your best bet would be to get in touch with your local BHS bridleways rep for some help and advice. They may know if and why the change has been made or if something can be done.
 
As above really. Double check first but near me its not unheard of for the council to stick silly unlawful signs up on bridleways. Or even local residents. There's a small field near me that the owner is quite happy to let kids, dogs horses etc all use while its for sale to stop it ending up overgrown. A local guy stuck up a professional sign saying no dogs & horses cos he doesn't like them!
 
Thanks for that link Burnttoast, I checked and the b-way in the park is DEFINITELY on there :D Unfortunately, the council put a pole right in the middle of the path to get out of the park at the bottom to stop "kids on motorbikes" from riding through the park (although there is a big open gate at the top and they still do it!), which although we could shimmy through, would get in the way.

Am going to complain to the council now when I pay by council tax at the end of the month about this pole.
 
Hi your council will have a PROW officer (public rights of way) that can tell you what you need to know. Give them a ring now, people always say they will do it later and never do. Sorry but I am always giving them a call about rights of way.
 
Refusing to pay your council tax will only anger your council and possibly end you up in court. Council tax rates are set by an Assessor, not your local council. They are based on the value of your home, and though they are linked to your council's funding, they have no direct relation to the services you may or may not receive.

Ask to speak to your council's rights of way officer. Or, contact the BHS who may be able to liaise with your local council on your behalf.

I haven't seen anything saying sidesaddle wont pay her council tax, just she is going to complain when she does pay?!
 
LOL, didn't say I was going to refuse to pay but just complain about the pole in the middle of the park exit while I'm there! :) Same as how I ask them for the "free" green and brown recycling bags while i'm there so I can stock up on them as I pay for them in my tax and not have to beg the bin men to throw me one.
