Getting sick fed up with my horses saddle.
Last October she started to get a bit moody when I was girthing up...got saddler out as I thought she was sore (head tossing too) saddle apparently needed flocking up at the front cause it was soft..nothing else. Horse got progressively worse and we thought the problem was in her back or internally. Physio came and spotted her saddle was shifting onto her spine. Same saddler flocked up her saddle on one side - Perfect!

Until she started to seem sore...felt like we were going backwards. Saddle had a gap between her back and saddle. So saddler gave me a wintec pad which was thicker at the back and was fantastic! Until she went sore again, saddle rising with me in trot very far off her back...so I tried with a thicker numnah and she is fine to ride, better than ever (I presume the thick numnah (polypad) is absorbing shock) but she's nipping when I girth her up...think the saddle may be pinching her where is actually fits.
The saddle is damn near perfect at walk - just trot it's a shambles...what can I do? Try a different saddler?

I would definately try a different saddler, as he shouldn't be suggesting pads to compensate for a badly fitting saddle.

Good luck!

I suggest having your saddle checked again. By your last comments of it lifts badly at the back in trot but by using a thicker numnah it improves seems to imply your saddle is too wide and does not correspond with the use of a back riser. If you look on the master saddlers website you will get the names of other qualified saddlers and saddle fitters in your area so you could book someone different to look at it.
Hope you get it sorted x

Gembob- It is a little bit expensive - but not as much as the vet bills it causes!

ktsaddler- Looks like another saddle check then...I think Kay Hastilow is the only Master Saddler who will come my way - but she oesn't come to your yard. However have just foun another qualified saddler in my area!

Kay Hastilow is a VERY good fitter. She used to live near me and sorted out a very difficult horse. If that is who you have you really wont get much better. I never found anyone as good after she moved away. One of the reasons she is so good is that she will flock on site.

Plus she never once tried to fob me off with a new saddle!
