Babies and Horse - Do they mix?

I had mt son in May this year and have managed. I do have an understanding husband but when he is not around baby is parked up in yard with a snowsuit on whilst I muck out etc. If I wwant to ride in the school I park him just outside so he is safe and I can keep an eye on him. I do only ride for 1/2 hr-40 mins a day but it is plenty for mine. I started again at about 5 weeks and was breastfeeding. You just have to feed, dash to yard and tack up quickly etc and get on with it!
Good luck, you will be fine, if eh misses the odd day riding it is not the end of the world anyway....

If he's the one in the sig I'd sell the baby (human one) first he's lovely !!

Seriously though my old instructor used to shove her daughter in the car, park it in the middle of the school and just ride the horses round her. You may just have to bite the bullet and have him living out with shelter/rugs. If you're determined to keep him and I would be, you may have to juggle and compromise a bit.

do you mean tied to the walker, going round and round, or just parked in the middle? i really hope you mean the latter... the first one sounds very dangerous to me... i've seen what a naughty horse can do on a horsewalker!

someone at the SJ on Sunday had a tiny (2month) baby with her. She would rush into the gallery, give it a quick feed, hand it to any willing teenager she could find, fly back out the gallery and 2mins later you'd see her going round the SJ course. then she'd rush back in, take baby back from whoever it had ended up with, feed it again... and so on. LOL

fortunately her baby is very good about being cuddled by pretty much anyone. Her biggest problem seemed to be trying to get out of her jumping jacket and shirt/stock in order to feed the baby

she had another two kids there also jumping their ponies. I don't know how she did it but she seemed to be enjoying herself!
 
Yes i breast fed both my boys for 9 months! if i went out longer than about 3 hrs i would just leave a bottle of formular made up, just in case.

Isn't normally an hour of pleasure that causes the child, if that is you can make it last that long

I am also officially due in march! I have 7 horses but thankfully - they have all been thrown out for the winter (with the exception on the over 18hh elephant shire mare i've had to bring in for a week or so) I am kinda worried as at the moment - i am sort of banned from the yard and have also been signed off due to my pregnancy - oooo - i'm expecting twins! I tried to get some sharers so that the neds were in work - no luck. I am worried as i will have quite a few fresh horses who need bring back into work and one is also expecting a foali!!!
I dont myself like the idea of babies in the arena at all, we have a little gallery i could put the pram in but i doubt i could get much done as with two - one is bound to be awake. PLUS OH is very much against the babies ever being at the yard. I think i have pretty much come to accept i am not going to ride much :-( i would try and keep your horse but as another reply said - you may have to compramise a little? I think i could cope with parking the car by the arena and riding? but then again i cant get a car easily by our indoor school, but even so - i hate to think negative but what if you are riding, with little one in pram/car etc and you have a fall???
I guess time will tell with it all!
