Can anyone advise?

We have a surprise chick. OH has had bantams for ages, they sit but nothing’s ever hatched.
Last night he brought a few eggs in and popped them into the incubator. One literally hatched within hours!
The chick, whilst very vocal and quite bright can’t use its legs.
I vaguely remember someone telling me once that a dose of vit b can help?
OH will put him to sleep tomorrow if no improvement but is there anything I can try?

Make sure the floor is very grippy. I use towels. If the legs are splayed hobble them with plasters. Keep him in the dark so he doesn’t try to stand, but make sure he’s not hot or cold.
Leave in incubator for 48 hours.

I think if you you tube splayed legs it shows you. It’s hard to do, ideally needs two people and no guarantee of success. I have had it work well though, worth a gamble

It’s sort of above his hocks, just to stop the hip joints displacing. Small elastic bands can work, or medical tape.

why cant the chick stand? Splay leg is just like it sounds. Its also completely normal for newly hatched chicks to try and fail to stand for a little while. You must have a broody hen as something has been sitting on the egg for 21 days. If the chick is ok I would pop it back under the hen when its dark. Lone chicks dont thrive.

Sorry! No, sadly he didn’t make the night. It seemed his feet were all wrong and he started flipping over. We came down In the morning to find him on his back very close to death so OH helped him. :( poor little thing.
We are going to make sure eggs get taken out straight away from now on anyway as I think somethings not quite right with mum or dad never to have had even one chick successfully.

That's a shame. Maybe they are very interbred? If she's a good broody maybe buy some eggs in the spring if you really want fluffies.

I don’t know. We got them as chicks from the gamekeeper on the farm.
I don’t desperately to be honest, I mean they are lovely and super cute but I hatched a little pair a while ago, from bought eggs just to see if I could!
I have a little cockerel who’s currently (hilariously) learning to crow ?
