I havd had this mare just over a week.

I know very little about her past.

Is she fat or is this a baby belly?!

Reason I asked is my mare looks similar to that and I a woriking on the assumption she is in foal. What does her udder look like?

From the pics, her belly looks egg shaped, and sticks out more at the back, if that makes sence, if she was fat, all of her belly would be round. I might be wrong, but we regularly get in foal mares on my yard and they look like that.

Thats what im thinking.
If she was generally fat her ribs wouldnt be so obvious, she would be fat all over.

But her belly is more triangular, all fat at the back end.

How far alone would you say she was?

Her udder seems normal.
Not swollen or waxing.
Very dirty between the teats though!

How far alone do you thing your mare is?

Based on the info I have from the previous owned tomorrow is the earliest possible date she could foal. She was not supposed to be in foal but back in May I noticed she was producing milk. Never had it confirmed by a vet tho, just waiting to see what develops so to speak!

What breed is your mare?
Is her belly a similar size or bigger?
Is the shape the same?

Could be between 4-6 months, but you can try a human pregnany test to find out, a friend of mine did that and unbeliveibly it worked, but if shes too far along it might not.

I tried that with my last mare!

We new she was in foal as she had a scan but out of interest we did a human test, it worked!

Im going to try a test on her, i waited 2 hours tonight but she wouldnt have a pee in front of me!

She is a welsh cob x we think, her belly appears to have got bigger recently and could be a little bigger than your mare, certainly angular rather than round and more to the back. She is not uniformly round, if that makes sense. If she is co-operative tomorrow I will take some piccies (suspicious of the camera!). Apparently she ran with a stallion with a couple of weeks at the end of August, although the previous owner did not think she went to the stallion - she had the opportunity!!

They are buggers arnt they:) i have never thought of doing a human test before, does she always pee in the same place? mabe you could hide a bucket in her bed. sounds daft but it could work
