Baby carriers (not for use on horseback, don't worry!)

Hi

Sorry if this should be in soap box but I was wondering if anyone had bought a child carrier (not the flimsy ones that you use for newborns etc but a proper framed one) that they could recommend (or not as the case may be)?

I have on order a MacPac Possum carrier and am hoping it's here for Burghley on Saturday ;)

Does anyone think they are worth getting? It wouldn't be used just for Burghley but that has been the catalyst!

Thanks :)

I had one when my daughter was little, like this; http://www.bush-baby.com/elite.html

It was a complete god send as my girl was 9 months old when my hubby went to Afghanistan for 7 months, then worked away in Plymouth during the week for about 12months. I still had to walk the dogs twice a day so the carrier got plenty of use!! It was really comfy, the adjustable back bit meant that I could get it just right for me so most of her weight was on my hips rather than on my shoulders. I could easily walk around with her in the backpack for an hour or 2! It was quite expensive but we got ours from Ebay, although it was used it was pretty much as good as new!

It would be great for an event like Burghley as well.

Funnily enough I have just bought one of the 'flimsy' type ones purely for use at the stables. Having to suddenly have to manage everything with a 13 month old baby in tow I needed to be able to have my hands free, and I love it. I now have chattering going on in my ear whether I am mucking out, turning out horses, hens or geese, walking fences etc, etc. They really are not that flimsy (although it was one of the more expensive ones that does up to 18kilos) and I would recommend them to anyone.

Thanks everyone!

I too have a flimsy one that I used when Isla was a small baby but now she's 10 months old I don't think either of us would be that comfy for her to be in it for long periods tho mucking out etc would be fine.

I think something like the one Tillypup mentioned would be ideal - as I say I have a MacPac one on order which I think is not quite as structured as some, I'll see what I think to it when it arrives and if not then perhaps try one of the bush baby ones.

Thanks again everyone :)
