Hi everyone Just wanted to share with you some good news for a change:D

Have been going through a tough time with my baby NF - having been the easist pony in the world to take through his ground work, spent loads of time making sure he really understood what I wanted and that he was happy to carry on learning (he has a very "busy" little brain) and thinks that everything new I introduce is a great new game!

Fab to back and start hacking out, bold & chilled thanks to all those miles spent trudging along on long reins - including out on the open Forest (he's Forest bred so that was quite an ask) Went to first in hand show, again Mr Chilled in every way.

Then a few weeks ago we hit the "Terrible Teens" - I got spun off & dumped twice in a few days, he started to chuck head about - had dentist out who found nothing bad. Suddenly felt scared, old and unsure if I could finish the job.:(

Started making excuses not to ride him, looking at other ponies for sale, feeling guilty about selling him so early in his life, worried where he might end up and generally beating myself up. Riding is supposed to be FUN and this definitely wasn't.

Confided my fears to brilliant instructor who handed me a box of tissues and offered to ride him for me. Two sessions later I have my happy, willing & clever pony back. I'm SO glad I persevered - think he is going to make me a cracking pony provided we take things at his pace.

Thanks for listening to my drivel - just wanted to tell you my boy is staying where he belongs:D:D:D

Thats great news. :) Well done you for sticking with him :) I hope things continue to improve for you both and you have many happy years together. :D
How is yours bred. (this is where I pretend to know about forest breeding ;) :o )
I have two forest breds. Both very diffrent ponies but great in there own ways. I also live in the forest and when the horrid one is being perticulaly horrid I threaten to untack him there and then and leave him on the forest :p I've actuly got my eye on a little dun gelding who roams on our common, Think he may be easyer to handle than Herbie sometimes ;) :p

Well done for seeing the problems through. Mine too went through a short period of trying to be boss. It was hard to carry on sometimes. He's had most of the winter off and now rising 6 ( still very green) is going very nicely. Looking forward to the show season!

Morning everyone - thanks for the messages of encouragement. For LauraWheeler, he's by Brookshill Brumby out of Royal Oak Amanda - she's still going strong @ 25 although no longer breeding. She's also very much boss mare (think Junior may have picked up few tips there!:p). Brumby is a good oldfashioned sort - built like a brick *****house and has sired some cracking foals.

Lovely to hear of someone sharing my passion for NF - and don't the forest bred know how to look after themselves (mutterings of that's it, saddle off, maybe you'll learn some manners out here have been very common these past few weeks!!) Please keep in touch - I'd love to hear if your "dun project" comes off.

Another first - going out on a Forest hack with several buddies this afternoon - so please keep fingers firmly crossed!! Many thanks to all:D

What an interesting post, and show how worthwhile it is to stick with your original intentions, and what a good idea to get someone else involved when things get difficult, it is such a good solution.

Outside help that can stand back and just see what is happening and then support you to move forward is such a help, hope this afternoons ride goes well, do let us know. Riding in the forest sounds lovely.

Hi folks Just got home from a fabulous happy hack with four friends where the baby pony I was on the point of selling last week:(:( behaved himself so well I have big silly grin plastered on face:):):)

This won't be the last time he will drive me to drink (hic) but I really feel we have regained the confidence we'd both lost and so he will be staying right here.

Instructor just gave me our next target - Pratice Show for baby NF ponies in hand & Nursery Novice. Should be a giggle esp as held on 1st April!!!

Signing off now - time for a hot bath & a glass of something nice to celebrate!!

Happy horsey weekend:D:D:D
