Baby Oil for horses...?

I've heard of people using baby oil on horses before but what do they use it for?Whereabouts do they put it on the horse and what does it do?

I put it in tails, makes them nice and shiny and much easier to brush out. Also on a bay a little bit rubbed into your hands rubbed on parts of face and certain places on beck makes them nice and shiny and can define muscle well.

I use it on my mares long mane and tail mainly in winter, it helps prevent tangles and also repels the great clods of mud she likes to roll in. I also use it directly on hard to get out mud, burrs, thistles etc, it breaks them down with ease!

You can also use it on feathery legs for the same purposes.

sorry to lower the tone... but I use it on vet advice as a quick squirt up my gelding's sheath to keep it clean.

I rubbed in base of babys mane and top of tail once every 2 days at night to relive her skin as she suffered sweetitch. she always had a fly sheet on to prevent sun burning her and bloody worjed for 3 years

Some people use it when showing, they rub some into the horses muzzle & also around the eyes. Apparantly it works really well on bay horses.

I use it on dry skin, scruffy bits and rug rubs etc. I use it a lot in winter on clipped and rugged horses.

Also is great for hot clothing with some Dettol and fairy liquid

I use it in Winter to help prevent the mud sticking/clogging on lower legs (horse's not mine )

I use a squirt of oil up the sheath to help the old fella clean.

I don't like using it on horses faces, it's oil... It can cause some pretty serious sun burn in the summer.

Just be a bit careful! As someone already mentioned sunburn can be a problem but I'm allergic to baby oil and figure if it makes me itch the way it does it could cause a reaction in horses as well especially in sensitive places like sheath and eyes.
It is obviously not going to hurt on tails etc!

i was going to say this - my boy is VERY allergic to baby oil. i didn't think to test when I used it to sheath clean. Poor boy spoke with a very high voice for a while until the anti-histamine kicked in. Not pleasant

When I take horses racing I rub baby oil into a body brush and use it for quarter marks. I dont use it anywhere else on the.body though as it makes them a bit slippy!!

Also not a good idea to use it on the feathers when waiting for the farrier. My Fell nearly went up in flames when the hot shoe arrived. Farrier muttered about my stupidity..........

I did not know this!!!! Genious!!! I will be trying this one in winter!!!!
