Walking him inhand around the school- 20% of the time standing on back legs, 30% of the time really trying, 40% of the time thinking about it, 10% of the time walking nicely, roughly

I managed to get the idea of how to stop him, by various diversion methods, but he did it so casually I expect it might be a habit, so what would you use? A pressure halter? What type? Just a straightbar bit? or somthing else? He doesn't try and run away or anything, and isn't even nasty, but it needs to stop. Suggestions?

Got spark this little one has, reminds me so much of Pip, he has gone straight to the top of the herd, he so much as looks at one of them and they run off, he has a firm double barrel he uses if they don't

An anti-rear headcollar might help stop him rearing and give you a bit more control.

I think we need pics!!

I know, Bless him

No pictures of the rearing, only him looking angelic. He is so pretty and fab trot though

Never even knew anti-rear headcollars existed.

Keeping it as Tally, I don't need any bad luck, and its part of his registered name.

Thats what I'm thinking- I have a suspision a sharp pull down from the poll when he rears might shock him from doing it again inhand

Would rather not 'pull him down' from a bit, or even let him barge with the bit as this might not be good for when I get on, or behind and he knows he can pull through the bit.

I like the pressure halters and a long lead rope

The halter manages all our neddies nicely, even when they're having a moment; and the longer lead rope gives a lot of flexibility in terms of being able to move round/be away from ned yet still holding on/the end can be used to help reinforce the 'move away from pressure' lessons.

Definately need cutie piccies

I agree with Ezme. A rope halter stopped my mare rearing on the way to the field (16.3 lol) I also still use a really long leadrope at all times so if she does go up I have plenty of length to get out of the way without letting go. I don't get sucked under if you see what I mean! (Great minds think alike Mrs M!)

I also found to just use your arm weight on the leadrope made her think before doing it. I just literally held the rope and let my arm hang straight down, completely relaxing at the shoulder which adds a fair weight to it. I was told that by a real old horse expert and it made a real difference!

He sounds super! Got any more pics? Oh and some of Bob too please, he's my favourite lol!
