Something happened out in the field to my 4 year old just over 3 weeks ago- looked very much like some kind of puncture wound as it was very deep-right down to bone- but i'm not sure. Brought her in, rode as normal and was absolutley fine but when i got off i noticed blood on her leg (dont know how i didnt see this before riding as she's been groomed and done her feet!) Called vet as it looked like it needed to be stitched, vet came and had a look, cleaned it up & stitched it. Put her on bute & antibiotics and dressed the wound and put her on box rest. came to check 2 days later- all looked to be fine. Came out every 2-3 days for next 2 weeks to dress it and it seemed ok, he scanned it just to be sure about 8 days after the initial incident and it looked ok, but he did say if anything was going to show up then it was too early to tell really. The dressing came off last week & she went back out on sunday
Vet came out again today to see how she was doing, i was a bit worried as the swelling wasn't going down. Had a good look at it and thinks there's a sequestrum
Coming out to re-scan and x-ray tomorrow. Fingers crossed there's not as she'll have to go in for an op to remove the bone fragments but pretty sure there is. Thankfully she's not been at all lame on it from day 1 and doesn't seem painful with it (hasnt had bute for a while now) but it now looks like both of my horses will be out of work for the forseeable future.
Any spare vibes for tomorrow would be welcomed. I've got everything crossed already!
