A small showing report.
After realising at our last show that Breagha who only turned 4 officially last month was as calm as you like at a show, I decided to bite the bullet and enter another show. So we went along to the RRC Annual show yesterday and I had entered her in the Ridden Turnout class and also the Novice ridden class.
We have been doing allot of hacking at home and she loves going for a canter out on a hack alongside my OH horse BUT she becomes quite sticky in the school when it comes to canter but she will do it eventually. So I knew that the novice class might have been a bit much for her but it was all a training experience.
First class at 9am was the Ridden Turnout and apart from throwing her head up in the air a bit she just did what I asked and you only need to walk in Turnout but she was well behaved nonetheless. The class was full of greys but Breagha was pulled in 3rd out of 15 (nice feeling knowing that all the elbow grease was noticed lol).
So, after the turnout class I thought I would take her into the warm up arena to see how she coped with other horses warming up apart from one little buck she was perfect and gave me the canters I needed but she was following others in the warm up. I then put her back to the trailer to let her chill in the sun as there was a long wait until our ridden.
Our ridden wasnt until 1.05pm so jumped back on her about 12.45 and gave her a walk around the show to get her warmed up, I didnt do too much with her as I was worried she would run out of steam.
So, there was only 5 in our class and we proceeded to go in and were walking around and we have never done a go around in more than walk, so was nervous and excited to see what she was going to do but shouldnt have worried, she got on with the job at hand in the go around, gave me a nice forward trot and a nice canter which got her pulled in initially in 3rd place but as I suspected in the individual show she lacked in confidence and would only give me canter on one rein and started to back off me, so instead on getting on her case too much, we gave a nice trot and ended our individual show. We were then placed 5th out of 5 but I couldnt have been happier with her as she took it all in her stride and it was nice to know that the judge did like her in the go around.
So, our home work is to improve on her doing things on her own. So, I am going to have to purchase some brave pants to start hacking her on our own but I know she will be fine but not as forward as she is in company and have a lesson tomorrow night and also on Saturday.
Onwards and upwards.
