I took my baby show cob to his first ridden show...for a lot of reasons, I hesitate to post pics as I'm very self conscious - I know I'm no stick insect but I'm trying very hard to get there...anyway I bought my boy after losing my horse of a lifetime in June 2016, this cob was bought from a video in Ireland & it was a leap of faith.
What followed after he arrived was a bit of a nightmare.....he was unhandled but an angel nevertheless but green as grass.
About a month after he arrived, my back went into spasm and i ended up in A&E and couldn't get out of bed for over a week. The yard I was on was DIY and the 2 girls I was sharing with taking turns, couldn't accept I couldn't get there (was literally bed bound in agony) and even though I arranged a freelance to do my turns, turned on me and screamed in my face when I finally made it up there having arranged to send my boy to a wonderful friend.
He was away 4 months as I recovered. Got him to the breaker's at age 4 (a very young 4 though) then I collapsed with massive Pulmonary Embolism and was in hospital for a week. The breaker did nothing with him except take my money & there was nothing I could do - I nearly died & was so lucky I was in the doctor's surgery when I collapsed. So my cob went back to my friends again - I finally had him home still unbroken last September 2017.
I slowly recovered from the PEs...discovered I had an underactive thyroid. Asked doc if I should be worried as my dad passed away from a rare thyroid cancer in 1986.
She suggested seeing a consultant....they did tests....I had a lump! After biopsy I needed a total thyroidectomy as the lump was suspicious.....had it all out in May this year. I had damage to my parathyroids from the surgery meaning I needed calcium supplements which I'm still on but hoping to reduce soon as they recover. Fortunately my thyroid lump nwasn't malignant but I had to had genetic tests as the type of cancer my dad had, could be genetically linked.
These finally came back clear in November, and so after my cob was finally broken in this May, I was able to ride him and being nervous, riding him in a show situation after all my health issues, is a big thing.
But i needn't have worried - he is just a superstar & won his first ridden class. I'm so proud of him...if he's half the horse my old cob was, I'll be happy
I'm hoping to keep this positive
