Been reading up on Bach Flower Remedies for nervous horses. I have just moved yard and although my horse is happy he is a little nervous, especially out hacking - even though we have been stables in that area in the past (do horses remember where they have lived!!!). Have heard that Aspen, Rock Rose are good for horses hacking nerves plus Walnut for his new surroundings. I know they will take a while to get in his system but how long should you give them before riding?

Thank you - really hoping it works!!! Maybe I should take some too..........

You could also try PAX which is supposed to calm both horse and rider - I've bought a bottle on recommendation from several people - not used it yet - waiting til next weekend when we have our first show!

I prefer animal aromatics. I was given a 17.2hh horse last April he will be 14 this year. Though kindly and understandingly looked after (except for when he was sent away for training) he had always been nervous since being weaned at 6 months) I've been learning about and treating my animals with aromatics so at christmas treated him for his problem. he very quickly turned into a confident boy evn bucking at the alpha mare and baring his teeth at her when she had a headfit at him (she tends to be a bit neurotic and over the top) he has since remained like this to date and full confidence back after all those years. This is a good website and her book is excellent www.ingraham.co.uk

I tried one once, just to chill my mare out a bit, get her to relax a bit.... well it just made her over confident in my opinon. She became an utter [****] to catch within a week of taking it, and my struggles with this went on for a while (she's fine now, eventually)... so I will personally never touch one again. Could be coincidence but I'm not convinced.
