Im currently looking for a saddle for a nf cross pony, have just found one advertised that is a 'bachelor' or 'bachelor of Epping' saddle. I've never heard of them so has anyone had one? What are they like etc? Thankd

He is a very well known saddler in Essex - saddles on the whole are good quality leather. Depending on the age, either made by Anthony Batchelor or his father.

They were the rolls royce of saddles. I used to get all my tack there, including a "made to my own design" in hand bridle, that is still used 30 years on. Great quality and workmanship.

Go for it. It will be an excellent saddle if it has been well looked after. I am still using a saddle made to measure for my old horse by 'old Mr Batchelor' in 1988 (cost me £280!) . It was refitted to current horse 7 years ago and is still in regular use. Higher cantle than is fashionable nowadays but perfect otherwise. It'll see me to the end of my riding days I am sure!

I bought the saddle was in immaculate condition & the right size too.. so pleased with it.. at 23 maybe I'm too young to have heard of them?
