I've spent the past 2 days going on quite intense hacks, with a lot of canter/gallop work, which I often adopt the forward seat for. Tonight my back is very achey! Does anybody have any tips regarding this? I hope horse is not feeling as achey as I am! :P

My physio has got me standing on one leg for 20 secs x 4 to increase lower back strength and when lying down drawing your belly button to spine. Hard to do the belly button one so I just use my wii fit!

Ahhh I have a wii fit, that sounds like a plan! I think it's down to being out of practice and perhaps bad posture, definately need to work on my strength! Thanks for the tips

Yep, any exercise to strengthen core muscles is good. In the short term, a nice warm bath (not hot!) and a massage!!!!!!!!

rode for 1st time in weeks yesterday(only 10 mins) and also fell on my arse so dont really know which is to blame for the agony i am in right now,got heat patch on but its not touching the pain...I really feel for ya

I just feel a bit pathetic really, hobbling around very slowly! It's not as if I have jumped around badminton or anything!

Sorry you're suffering. If its tight in your low back-lumbar spine, you could try a simple knees to chest stretch, laying on your back bring your knees up to your chest and hold for 30 seconds. Even if you are feeling it more in your mid back (thoracic area) this should still help.
Although heat feels great most times ice is more beneficial, as it acts like an anti inflammatory, where as heat may further irritate! You can get a bag of frozen peas wrapped up in a tea towel for 10-15 mins.
Agree with everyone on the benefits of core work though-but this is the long term solution! If it doesn't subside in a couple of days might be worth getting a specialist to look over you. Best of luck
