Well I personally love them, as I was featured in one the year before last I think that it depends on how you look at it, I hope that people looked at my case, PSD leading to a bilateral neurectomy in the hinds and see that it can work and be worth all the hard work in rehab.
I love them, it's nice to read a story that shows the more realistic and 'not always pleasant' aspects of having horses, and inspiring to see how someone has helped their horse to come back from the brink. I think it's wrong to "loath" them to be honest, if you don't like them, read something else. Having horses is never going to be easy but it can be so rewarding, and sometimes it is nice to be reminded of this.
I do like to read these and am always impressed with the faith the owners show in the horse when they rest it for 18 months and then walk for another 5 months or whatever. To me those guys really deserve their success.
